The Simplicity of New Age Marketing
Posted on 18. May, 2008 by admin.
Marketers from around the world have been using the human trait of sentimentality and gift giving as a way to make money. And why not? Birthdays, Anniversaries, Easter, Christmas, Mother’s and Father’s Days have become so commercialized and exploited that it is a marketer’s dream to capitalize on.
The usual form of advertising products that we are so familiar with is through trade shows, and handing out promotional items ranging from T shirts to mugs and calendars and even television and radio advertising promotions.
There are many, many ways of advertising. The newest way, online, is through the use of blogs. This can be a relatively cheap form of promoting any product or service through retail outlets.
Advertisers have budgets – be they small or grand. The less you spend on advertising the more profit you make on sales. This point alone has led me to Project Wonderful – a marvelous innovation where you place a bid to have your ad listed on a site.
Another “different” blog is in the form of a directory – Blogged.com It is unique in that it is focused on “locating” better blogs on which to advertise. This blog is like a search engine and it is categorized and rated by editors, so it can’t be manipulated and become a blog full of scams.

Advertising With Project Wonderful
Posted on 29. Feb, 2008 by admin.
As a marketer I am always looking for new opportunities to advertise and promote my websites. I use Adwords regularly, but it does tend to get expensive and it isn’t worth it for smaller sites. So I was hot on the lookout for a cheap yet effective form of advertising - and Project Wonderful fills that niche perfectly.
Project Wonderful is a simple advertising system - where you bid to place your ad on a site. And obvisouly the highest bidder wins. The price you bid is per day. For example on this blog - the top advertiser is paying just $0.06 per day. This is extremely cheap and provides an awesome CPC (Cost Per Click) and CPM (Cost per 1000 impressions).
As an advertiser, I have bid on over 200 blogs using the campaign feature, which does all the bidding automatically. You just set a budget, the blogs/sites you want to advertise on, and a daily limit and it does the rest. I spent around $100 on the campaign and received a great deal of exposure and traffic.
Like any advertising system, PW will take some practice to maximise your returns and I plan on using it more extensively in the future.

Here are some recent articles that have caught my eye:
Entrecard Traffic. Disliked By Advertisers? - I think think this could be true. As a fairly heavy advertiser, I sometimes skip over blogs with Entrecard. Should I be doing this?
Using Clusty For Blog Content and Research- Nice little post on a different kind of search engine.

MyBlogLog on A Slow And Steady Decline
Posted on 12. Feb, 2008 by admin.
It wasn’t that long ago when MyBlogLog widgets seemed to be appearing on blogs all over the internet, and it was rare to find a popular blog without it. But looking across the blogosphere now finding the widget is becoming a rarity.
Less and less people are using MyBlogLog and data from Compete.com clearly confirms this - they are on a slow and steady decline with a massive 40%+ drop in visits over the past year.
So what is responsible for the decline of MBL? I believe there are a number of factors including these:
- Blindness - I don’t even notice the recent readers widget anymore - it seems to just blend into the page and I pay no attention to it. Therefore, its unlikely that I am going to click it let alone interact with the widget.
- Widget Clean Up - Recnetly there seemed to be a blogger revolution to clean up the masses of widgets bloggers would habitually install for no good reason.
- Server Issues - MyBlogLog experienced many server and reliability issues. Some bloggers even had to remove the widget temporarily to even access there blogs and many bloggers experienced slow loading pages.
- Yahoo - When Yahoo decided to integrate the Yahoo ID with MBL, they also decided to introduce a lot of bugs. Personally, I had great troubles trying to connect my Yahoo ID with MyBlogLog and this was my breaking point.
- Common Sense - Although all the above points probably caused the decline of MyBlogLog, I believe that common sense was the major contributing factor - bloggers, like myself realized there was no true value in the widget.
Why do you think MyBlogLog is on a slow and steady path to destruction? Will they survive? Will Microsoft kill off this service with the looming acquisition?

When the Prologue Wordpress theme was released, I jumped into action and decided to build a web app for online marketers to share their resources. The site is built using Wordpress and the Prologue theme.
It only took me a couple of hours to complete and I think it turned out alright, although i’m planning to do a bit of coding work to make the entire site more user friendly.
So head on over to RankScale and start plugging your resources!
